For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to create my own art in the form of drawing and painting. Unfortunately, I don’t have it in me, so instead I simply admire the works of those who I wish I could emulate. Recently I’ve become quite a fan of the low-brow movement as well as pop-surrealism. Some current favorites of these genres include Todd Lawson, Alex Noriega and most recently Scott Belcastro.
Scott’s tribute to The Legend of Zelda series, titled Link vs. Gannon, was something I instantly fell in love with (thanks to the folks over at Juxtapoz) and bought a print of it from the I Am 8-Bit art show. Currently, I’m eagerly awaiting its arrival for two reasons; I’ve always wanted to own some type of Nintendo-related art and also because I’m a huge Zelda nerd.
As for more of Scott’s work, it’s beautiful and simplistic but has such a way of extracting emotion. Some of my other favorite pieces include, “Cast Your Fate to the Wind” and “Refinery.” For more insight into Scott’s work, Tina Ziegler over at Hunt & Gather posted a great interview with the artist which is definitely worth checking out.
