Major kudos to Last.fm’s music recommendations. Somehow I have completely missed the awesomeness that is the band Metric until tonight. Within minutes of listening to some of their tracks I was hooked. After checking out the band’s official website, I came across samples of street art from the Buenos Aires art collective “Hollywood in Cambodia” which the band is including as postcards in their upcoming CD’s (Fantasies) pre-order. Rockin’ musicians supporting street/urban art? This is the kind of stuff I completely geek-out about!

As stated on the gallery’s website:

“Hollywood in Cambodia was born in October of 2006, when two art-groups tried to build a non-conventional art gallery located on the first floor over a Palermo area bar (Buenos Aires, Argentine). The space looks more like a basement, but is really two rooms and a gallery shop by a big roof. The project is being run by Malatesta, Bs As Stencil and Run Don’t Walk collectives. These art groups are responsible for maintaining the space and are also curators for all exhibitions. They most likely look for people that specializes in urban decoration. With a strong intention of making good use of the space and release it from its original structure, the gallery has already eleven exhibitions and other activities (live painting, live silkscreen, workshops and conferences ). If we where forced to name or catalogue the gallery we should probably call it a collective of collective… a shape without a mould…”

Weird test? I beg to differ. And even though the site may be in Spanish, you don’t need a translator to appreciate all the wonderful talent this gallery contains.

Metric also has a short video and interview with the band’s lead singer, Emily Haines, talking about her visit to Buenos Aires and how it inspired her to write again. FYI: Towards the end of the clip is some footage of Emily and friends surrounded by the beautiful backdrop of Hollywood in Cambodia’s murals.
