On my way to work this morning, I witnessed a rather large funnel cloud (more of a water spout) hovering over east Fort Lauderdale. Now to some this may not be incredibly earth shattering, but for as long as I can remember, tornadoes have always been a fascination of mine. So, to be able to see the funnel cloud grow longer and attempt to touch ground made me quite…excited. It’s important to note that my fascination with these types of storms isn’t with the destruction they create, but rather lies within their elusive yet beautiful characteristics.
And, I’m certainly not alone in appreciating the beauty they possess. Photographer Eric Nyguyen has captured one of my favorite all time tornado photographs, which (I feel) depicts the simplistic beauty and chaos tornadoes can create.

Hopefully what I witnessed this morning isn’t the end all of my tornadic experiences. My urge to take a summer off and go storm chasing is still on the list of things to do.

That photo is awsome! I like how there is this massive black cloud above this small but deadly white spiral of a tornado… It’s pretty cool…
Beautiful shot! Very rarely can a picture be such an oxymoron.
