If my art journal could have a soundtrack, I’d have to say that most of its earliest pages would be played to the sounds of Circa Survive. It never ceases to amaze me how music can help one deal or cope with certain feelings or situations. And for me, this band has always found a way to do that in many of my own personal experiences. A lot of their lyrics have held some sort of significance, and this stands true with their newest single (listen below). Plus, the album cover is another great piece by Easo Andrews.

I’ve been meaning to write an obligatory New Year’s post that was originally going to be on the things I plan to accomplish or change over the next 12 months. Instead I figured making a playlist would be more fun. Compared to my last playlist this one includes more upbeat and pop-like songs, which I think mimics a lot of people’s emotions as the New Year begins. It seems a lot of people (myself included) associate this time of year with feelings of leaving things in the past, starting anew, and welcoming change with a sense of excitement.

Newest Guilty Pleasure: VersaEmerge

When it comes to music, a part of me still enjoys poppy punk/rock type music from bands like Paramore. Guilty pleasure? You betcha. Label this type of music what you will, all I know is it’s super catchy. But until Paramore comes out with something new, I’ve been trying to find another band to take their place. Hey Monday is ok…but not really what I was looking for.

Enter a new band I was recently introduced to called VersaEmerge. Probably the second best female pop/punk vocal band following Paramore, who are also signed to Fuel by Ramen. Hailing from Port St. Lucie, Florida these guys are way up there on the catchy music meter.

Time Lapse Lifeline Video

I have truly come to love Last.fm. Recently I was recommended the music of Maria Taylor and have fallen in love with her style.

Her video for the song Time Lapse Lifeline has easily become one of my favorite music videos. Synopsis: Girls in frilly dresses and sneakers driving around town causing a ruckus.

Cotton Jingle By Zooey Deschanel

I’m a pretty big commercial junkie, so you could say I was pleased to find out that actress and singer/somgwriter Zooey Deschanel is in a new commercial for Cotton. I’m probably not alone in being completely in love with all the outfits she wears throughout the clip.

The song used for the advertisement was also written by Deschanel and can be downloaded via Cotton’s website.
