If my art journal could have a soundtrack, I’d have to say that most of its earliest pages would be played to the sounds of Circa Survive. It never ceases to amaze me how music can help one deal or cope with certain feelings or situations. And for me, this band has always found a way to do that in many of my own personal experiences. A lot of their lyrics have held some sort of significance, and this stands true with their newest single (listen below). Plus, the album cover is another great piece by Easo Andrews.

I can’t get started from the part
Where I left off yesterday
Shoulda spent my time a little wiser

I sat alone guilty as sin
Waiting for words to come
From out of my head
Still making sense to anyone

I can’t wait to understand the reason
I’ve yet to translate any meaning besides
It’s not worth it to try

Get out (x2)

Lock myself up in a room without a window
Just to see if it was any easier to breathe
I was wrong

Never underestimate the daylight
There it’s so much easier to breathe

Yeah!

I can’t wait to understand the reason
I’ve yet to translate any meaning besides
It’s not worth it to try

Get out (x4)

It’s not worth it to try

I’ve been meaning to write an obligatory New Year’s post that was originally going to be on the things I plan to accomplish or change over the next 12 months. Instead I figured making a playlist would be more fun. Compared to my last playlist this one includes more upbeat and pop-like songs, which I think mimics a lot of people’s emotions as the New Year begins. It seems a lot of people (myself included) associate this time of year with feelings of leaving things in the past, starting anew, and welcoming change with a sense of excitement.

Download 2010 New Year Playlist:

The New Year – Death Cab for Cutie
Clarity – John Mayer
Shh – Frou Frou
Free Me – Joss Stone
I Feel It All – Feist
Drive – Incubus
Such Great Heights – The Postal Service
Miracle – Paramore
Dance Dance Dance – Lykke Li
Bleed Together – Lovedrug
More Adventurous – Rilo Kiley

Enjoy.

Music has always been a huge part of my daily life and with art journaling it is certainly no exception. Typically my music tastes can change in an instant, but lately the music I’ve been introduced to has me wanting to put on a pair of headphones and get lost in the sounds. My best friend recently shared a playlist she made, so I thought I’d do the same:

Le Loup – Go East
Radiohead – House of Cards
Bon Iver & St. Vincent – Roslyn
Andrew Bird – Simple X
St. Vincent – Your Lips Are Red
Helio Sequence – Lately
Lykke Li – Possibility
Death Cab for Cutie – Your Bruise
Maria Taylor – Time Lapse Lifeline
Lydia – Sleep Well
Feist – Honey Honey
Neko Case – This Tornado Loves You

You can download the entire playlist here if you choose.

When it comes to music, a part of me still enjoys poppy punk/rock type music from bands like Paramore. Guilty pleasure? You betcha. Label this type of music what you will, all I know is it’s super catchy. But until Paramore comes out with something new, I’ve been trying to find another band to take their place. Hey Monday is ok…but not really what I was looking for.

Enter a new band I was recently introduced to called VersaEmerge. Probably the second best female pop/punk vocal band following Paramore, who are also signed to Fuel by Ramen. Hailing from Port St. Lucie, Florida these guys are way up there on the catchy music meter.

Don’t believe me? Check out the music video for their single “Past Praying For” below:
