Charity Smackdown Goes Social at SXSW

Just yesterday I wrote about Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda and his wonderful artwork. And today brings yet another Linkin Park-related post. The band is continuing with their Music for Relief’s charitable efforts by joining Charity Smackdown.

The competition is presented by PayPal and features celebrities Kyle Petty, Hayden Panettiere, Brea Grant, Alec Baldwin, Corbin Bleu, Ernie Johnson and organizations Mashable and Elevenmoms. It all goes down starting on March 16th at the Mashable and Blurb Bash at SXSW and runs until March 26th. Each celebrity “team” will be utilizing social media tools like Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, and StumbleUpon to help raise money for their respectable charities.

I’ll be donating to support Team Linkin Park, but regardless of who comes out on top it’s a definite win-win situation.

Miami’s Yelp Elite Flaunt Their Green Side

Last night I headed out to South Miami for my second Yelp event which was held at Irish Times for a pre-St. Patty’s Day bash . Another great event put together by the lovely Miami Yelp Community Manager Maria. It was filled with karaoke, Irish inspired dishes, and of course Guinness. I may not have gotten up to sing karaoke, but was definitely impressed with the talent of other Yelpers. I think Fox’s American Idol definitely had some competition last night.

The next Yelp event is in April and will be held at the swanky restaurant/lounge YOLO in Ft. Lauderdale. If it’s anything like the last two events, it’ll prove to be another great night. Looking forward to meeting some new Yelpers and connecting more with the community.

And just a side note: Whoever said freely sharing your opinion doesn’t have its benefits obviously never had the opportunity to be part of the awesomeness that is Yelp.

Facebook Eases Hunger Pains and Is Now the Largest Photo Storage Site

Facebook users who just can’t seem to pull themselves away from the social networking platform, will be happy to know that Pizza Hut has launched a Facebook app allowing you to place an order right from your profile. This is something that will definitely be appreciated by those members who spend hours uploading tons of photos to their profile, which has now resulted in Facebook walking away with the title of largest online photo storage website.
