Over the long weekend my mother came down to visit and surprised me with a handmade purse she created. I was completely taken back by how beautiful it was and how well she knows what I like; textures and interesting details. She said she was inspired to create it after a purple dress I wore out to her Mother’s Day dinner.

Needless to say, I am completely touched by her present and can’t wait to use it. Words cannot describe how wonderful my mother is.

Greeting cards aren’t exactly something I used to get excited about. The only person whose cards would make me tear up were the ones my mom would give me. She always had a way of finding the perfect card with just the right wording that would pull at my heart strings, causing a tear or two.

But I confess that I’m more of a minimalist when it comes to the words in cards; I prefer to add my own. And since we moved, I’ve fallen in love with the beautiful Papyrus store. It’s a small place and a chain store nonetheless, but it’s filled with beautiful cards. On several occasions I’ve bought a few random cards to use in my art journal (see above) simply because of a unique design or the intricate details.

Sometimes taking a step back from the ebb and flow of a fast-paced world is a good thing – especially if it involves appreciating a message sandwiched inside an alluring card.

Whether you believe in celebrating Valentine’s Day or not, the date is beginning to slowly creep upon us, meaning it’ll soon be crunch time for chocolate and flower shop giants Godiva and FTD alike. But what if this year, you kicked the big guys to the curb and surprised your main squeeze with a box of Lovebugs by John & Kira’s?

I originally came across the chocolate-connoisseur couple on a Food Network special a few years back, which featured the owners making their irresistibly adorable ladybug chocolates – by hand. Since my significant other is a major choco-holic I decided to buy him a box, and we’ve been hooked on these ever since.

There are several Valentine’s Day Lovebug Collections, which is sure to make any recipient admire both the cute design and sweetness that lies inside. Just remember to thank me when your girlfriend/wife/whoever thinks you’re so thoughtful for buying them a box.

I decided to give in this past weekend and make a rare journey to Sephora. Normally I’m not entirely sucked into all that girlie stuff and employees wanting to scam help me, but I guess someone slipped something into my water. I should’ve known better when I bought a $25 lip gloss when a $1.50 tube of chapstick does the same job.

Luckily, my trip was redeemed when I came across a body scrub by Caudalie called Vinotherapie. Sure I’m a wine enthusiast, but after using it I, have to say I’m a big fan of this product. The scrub doesn’t have an overwhelming floral or fruit fragrance (which I love) but instead it’s very refreshing and energizing.

Pampering with a vino-twist; now that’s something I can get into.
